Summer is Coming

Summer is Coming

I’m a teacher, which means summer is a time for sleeping in, but also attending workshops and planning for fall. The school year ends for me officially on Friday, which means I’ll be having more time to write and promote my work. That said, I’ll also be moving classrooms, so my time isn’t totally open.

thumbI’m writing today because I want to keep my loyal readers updated on what’s going on as far as my work. My content editor has a copy of my latest novel, the first in a series of NA mysteries. My mythology this time is Lovecraftian (though the main character is a classics major, so there will definitely be a hint of the Greeks in there). I’m working on a promotional plan right now with my publishing company. Our goal is to have it releasing before Halloween, but nothing can be certain at this point.

If you’re interested in getting an early look at this, please consider joining my mailing list.

The Olympia Heights Comic is wrapping its third issue in the next few weeks. You can buy the issues on Kindle or read them online, but please, consider making a purchase of issues or swag to support this comic.

Issue four will start this summer. “The World and His Wife” follows June (Hera) and wraps up the first of four archs. I’m hoping to have the first trade paperback of the comic available for purchase by Christmas.

That’s all for now. Expect more updates as summer arrives.

NaNoWriMo 2015 Liveblog

NaNoWriMo 2015 Liveblog

This month I’m participating in NaNoWriMo. This is my fifth year doing the 30-day writing marathon. To the left you’ll find a daily calendar marking my progress. Below the related posts, you’ll find a liveblog that I’ll be updating throughout the month to talk about the experience.

Are you a Wrimo? Add me as a Buddy at Nimbuschick.

It’s done, though the draft isn’t complete. I’ll go back and revise book one more before I decide what note to end book two on. Thanks for the encouragement, internet!

NaNoWriMo 2015

NaNoWriMo 2015

Happy Halloween! All Hallow’s Read is fast approaching. Tomorrow night I will be busy with friends eating book-themed food and swapping spooky books while dressed as a gender-bent Harry Potter. Then on Sunday, I will be writing like a madwoman to get out in front of NaNoWriMo!

My username is Nimbuschick, so go add me as a Buddy (it’s case sensitive). You can also follow me on Twitter and participate in sprints with me from time-to-time.

thumbWhat will I be writing? Last year I wrote a ~65k word serial NA horror story that is in edits. It’s set in HP Lovecraft’s world at Miskatonic University, present day. The book, currently titled Tales from the Eldritch Ivy: Cult, will be released in episodes in 2016 (I hope). This year I’m getting started on the sequel.

thumbThe sequel follows Sebastian, a secondary character from the first book, who is still struggling to rationalize the events of the first novel. When Sebastian’s ex shows up, AWOL from the Marines, he gets wrapped up in yet another dangerous, mysterious plot, this time involving the Necronomicon.

I’ll see you on the other side of November when the second issue of the Olympia Heights comic is available in paper and ebook. You can read it here as a webcomic.

Escape Cover Reveal

Escape Cover Reveal

It’s finally here, the cover reveal for Escape OR, Major Bedloe’s Cold Iron War Machine! Still haven’t read book one? Grab it here.

Here’s the description for Escape:

Upon their arrival in Faerie, Royer Goldhawk and his companions are swept away by an encampment of free humans who are fighting a war on two fronts.

Royer must broker peace between these humans and the faerie rebels in order to defeat their common foe, Major Bedloe, and to stop the horror he is about to unleash upon the world.

The novel, the second and final part of the Royer Goldhawk saga, will be released July 4, 2015. You can pre-order it on Kindle and iBooks right up until release day, and you can pre-order it in paperback through July 4, 2015.

I started a vlog! Many of you have seen my one-off Youtube videos here and there. I love making videos, but until recently I haven’t had much drive to create and ongoing series.

A few weeks ago I went on a passive-aggressive rant on Facebook about some grammar issue or another. Blake Northcott, author of Versus Reality and Arena Mode, suggested that she would love to watch me scream about grammar in videos. While I don’t think shouting angrily would be a good level of passion to sustain throughout an entire explanation of how comma rules work, it did get me thinking.

Title Announcement: Miskatonic Serial

Title Announcement: Miskatonic Serial

The first new release of mine for 2015 will be Escape OR, Major Bedloe’s Cold Iron War Machine. It is the sequel to Rescue OR, Royer Goldhawk’s Remarkable Journal and the cover (I have seen it) is beautiful! That book will be be coming in a few months, and the cover reveal will come with the preorder a month before release.

thumbWhat I’m excited to announce today is the title of my NaNoWriMo project from this fall. This book, the first in a new series, will be released as a serial in episodes and finally be bound together in one volume. It’s a New Adult Horror release set in the world of HP Lovecraft at his fictional ivy league school, Miskatonic University.

ETA: All problems with the site have been worked out. You can view the comic at

We’ve had a little stumble launching the Olympia Heights comic. My hosting provider has been slipping considerably over the past few years, and last night’s issue was timed horribly because an issue with our previous site design wasn’t discovered until launch. While I wait for customer service (it literally could be a week, it was last time I dealt with them) I can’t do anything. I’ve been through all of my steps to troubleshoot and now a server admin is required.

So what about the Olympia Heights comic? Well, the site just keeps shooting off 500 Internal Server Errors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t read it. The comic is also being updated weekly by email. You can sign up here to get the new 2-page spread in your inbox on Fridays.

Get it in your inbox!

Below I’ve attached the starting pages so you can read them now. Hopefully once I get the kinks worked out the rest of the comic’s run will go smoothly. This is why I’ll be hosting my fanfiction on Tumblr.

The Olympia Heights Comic: An Update

The Olympia Heights Comic: An Update

The Olympia Heights comic did not fund on Kickstarter, but the fact that the average pledge was almost fifty dollars means that the people I did reach really wanted to see this happen. The failure to fund wasn’t so much a failure of the idea as a problem with reaching the right audience. I love novels and comics, so it was my own hubris in thinking that everyone who loves novels must love comics, too. It’s going to take a lot of work to build that comic audience, and having a comic is kind of an essential part (otherwise what am I promoting?)

So Sam Albro and I have come to an agreement to make this comic happen anyway. It’s going to change some things about our initial plan, but after rescripting and discussing this with friends and family, I actually think the new plan will produce a better result.

So watch the video below to hear about the plan.
